I work slowly, usually with only two or three canvases going at once. Most finished paintings began as a quick charcoal sketch made months earlier — a gesture, the fall of light across a doorway, someone reading with their knees pulled up. The painting comes later, once I can still remember why the moment mattered.

Trained in traditional atelier methods, but I keep returning to the same handful of rooms and the same few sitters. There's more to find in a familiar corner revisited in different light than in constantly chasing new subjects.

Painting is just paying attention long enough to notice what's actually there.
